Welcome

Thanks for stopping by! This blog-site not only allows you to view my most recent work, it also serves as a way for you to get a feel for the person behind the camera. So grab some coffee, kick back and take a glimpse into my crazy life!

My name is Lisa and I'm a Wedding Photographer in Cortland, NY. I'm married to my Hot Husband of 7 years, and we share our home with our 2 sons, whom I affectionately refer to as "The Oldest" and "The Youngest",the best dog in the world, named Murphy, a kitten named Friday, and one goldfish. In my free time I love to camp and hike with my family, curl up by the fireplace with a long book and a glass of wine, and stir up trouble with my BFF, whom I've nicknamed "Thelma".

Oh, and I'm a coffee fiend.

Although Cortland is a smallish city and sometimes cramps my style, it's located about 30 minutes from Syracuse, Ithaca and Binghamton. That allows me to travel throughout central NY with ease, enjoying both the beautiful scenery and access to a handful of Dunkin' Donuts' on my way to each wedding!

I Was Hoping To See A Unicorn, Too, But I Didn’t

I’ve been pretty busy with weddings lately, and in order to keep myself from falling into a creative slump, I make it a point to grab Junior and find something to shoot. Especially in the fall, because before you know it winter will be here. I don’t have any winter weddings booked so far (I’m keeping my fingers crossed, though) and I’ll need to keep this blog going until spring, so I’m trying desperately to get a bunch of pictures piled up that I can just pull from when it’s cold. Because in the winter I’m all like “Honey, there’s nothing to shoot but sticks and dirty snow.” And he’s like “Ansel Adams would never say that.” And I promise him if we can move out west where Ansel was I won’t say it anymore, either. But he just ignores me.

So Saturday evening we piled the family in the car and went for an explore. (That’s what we call it.) Eventually we ended up in a town called Lapeer, which does not have a Dunkin’ Donuts, by the way. It did, however, have a sheep, which was just hanging out by the side of the road. Lapeer isn’t exactly a thriving metropolis, but even a random sheep by the side of the road seemed a bit odd, so I couldn’t help but stop and take a picture.

I expected it to take off running, like most of my non-human subjects do when I point the camera at them, but it came closer instead. I wasn’t taking any chances after that.

Not long after stumbling across the random sheep, we found these alpacas. I’d never heard of or seen an alpaca until about 9 years ago when I found out the place Hot Husband and I worked at raised them as a little side thing, so it’s just sort of weird when you come across a bunch in a field. I wasn’t sure if the boys had ever seen any, so we pulled over and got out. As soon as I came within arms length of the fence this schizophrenic alpaca came charging up to it, staring me down with it’s huge eyeballs. There’s no telling what that thing would do to me if it got the chance.

This one seemed much more docile, and was happy to let me take it’s picture while it grazed. (That’s some food hanging out of it’s mouth.) The light was fading quickly by that time, so it was time to head home, but I still kept my eyes peeled for anything else out of the ordinary, just in case.

Whatever, Bill

Inquiring minds want to know if I got an iPhone for my Birthday yesterday. The answer is, no, I did not.

That’s because Hot Husband is a PC.

I guess Bill Gates has him brainwashed, and I don’t know if there’s any hope for him. Looking back on it I realize he’s been rebelling against my allegiance to Steve Jobs since I purchased my iPod. (There’s a link there just in case you’ve been living under a rock and have no idea what I’m talking about.) I, too, was “Anti-iPod” at first. We both refused to buy them on principle because everyone else had them. So we bought “other” mp3 players and were fairly happy with them until the day I decided to jump ship and purchase an iPod video. I fell head-over-heels in love, and I think maybe Hot Husband got a little jealous.

I was so in love with that beautiful piece of technology that I bought Hot Husband his very own iPod for Christmas last year. I put some music and a few tv shows on it for him, and told him how much happier he would be now that he had one in his life. I thought it had worked. He seemed happy.

He even hates to use the PC I bought earlier this year that came with Vista. I think he’d rather have every hair plucked from his body than to have to use that computer, and he seemed to understand my decision to purchase a Mac. I figured the combination of owning an iPod and hating Microsoft Vista would be the turning point for him, as it was for me. Then I found out the other night that his iPod had been left sitting in his Durango since August. Alone and out in the cold. And we all know electronics don’t like the cold.

So it seems that Bill has such a strong hold on him that he couldn’t bring himself to walk into an Apple store and purchase another product that would replace his wife’s current Window’s based phone. It’s OK. I’ll get over it. I’m sure all those people that talk about how cool it is are lying, anyway.

What my wonderful Husband did do was fix us a wonderful breakfast before he went off to work. Him and the boys gave me charms for my Pandora bracelet with our birthstones on them (which happen to be pink and green), along with a silk scarf. When he got home from work he made a delicious dinner of stuffed cornish game hens (I totally should’ve taken a picture of them) with roasted potatoes and veggies, and pumpkin cheesecake bars for desert. After dinner he took me to a movie. It was a great day all around, and Honey, I thank you again for everything. I love you!

Thelma, thank you so much for lunch and my yummy rum raisin candle! I’d also like to thank everyone who sent cards and Birthday wishes my way!

The Youngest came home from school with this card, signed by all of his classmates. He was so proud of himself!
